Congress blames Modi govt, not Chinese, for Galwan clash

Playing politics at the cost of national security comes naturally for Sonia Gandhi led Indian National Congress (INC). They have often spoken the language of enemy countries purely out of their hatred for PM Modi; be it during the Balakot air-strikes or at the time of Doklam stand-off or the recent Galwan face-off with Chinese troops. Reports indicate that Congress is blaming the Modi government for Chinese aggression in which  Bharat has lost 20 of its brave soldiers and 35 Chinese deaths have been reported.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala blamed PM Modi and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for keeping mum about the violent clash that took place between Bharatiya and Chinese troops and demanded that government reveal sensitive security details. He also said that BJP was more interested in ‘staying in power’ and the country was not their priority.

He even claimed that Congress was ‘firmly behind the government’ when neither their statements nor their actions indicate supportive behaviour. Their party ex-president and 50 years old ‘youth leader’ Rahul Gandhi was more interested in pinning the blame on the Modi government rather than offering any constructive solution.

The churlish and irresponsible statements from Congress and its top leadership come at a time when the entire country including opposition leaders such as BSP supremo Mayawati was measured and mature in their response.

Not only was Rahul Gandhi’s statement irresponsible but it was devoid of facts as well (no surprises there!). While he alleged that Bharatiya soldiers were sent unarmed and hence couldn’t defend themselves from the Chinese assault, truth is that as per five agreements signed between the two nations soldiers are not to use weapons for maintenance of peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

The irony is that Rahul Gandhi doesn’t even know that four out of five important border management agreements with the Chinese were signed by Congress Prime Ministers. Late Shri PV Narasimha Rao (1993) and Dr. Manmohan Singh (2005, 2012 and 2013) when his mother Sonia Gandhi was the UPA chairperson were the signatories of these peace agreements. Shri HD Deve Gowda (1996), an ex-Congressman, signed the fifth agreement when he was PM of the United Front govt.

It is understandable that Rahul and Sonia Gandhi’s heart bleeds for the Chinese after all they had entered into a deal with the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2008. As per the deal, Congress and CPC have agreed to consult each other on ‘important’ bilateral, regional and international issues.

As per External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S Jaishankar’s statement the general practice is that soldiers are armed while leaving the post but do not use firearms during the face-offs in accordance with the peace agreements signed between the two nations.

The violent seven hours face-off between soldiers of the two countries began when a troop of 50 Bharatiya soldiers led by Colonel Satish Babu reached Patrol Point 14 at 7 PM on Monday evening. As per the de-escalation agreement between senior commanders of both sides, the Chinese troops had to vacate the said spot. However, Bharatiya soldiers found that Chinese tents and an observation post were still present at the spot in violation of the de-escalation plan.

When the Chinese soldiers stood their ground instead of vacating the area, Bharatiya troops began removing their tent. Soon the matter escalated and soldiers from both sides were engaged in hand-to-hand combat. The duel went on for seven hours as reinforcements arrived for both sides. Blows were exchanged and stones were thrown from both sides. However, the Chinese who heavily outnumbered the Bharatiya troops used iron rods and nail-studded clubs to attack their Bharatiya counterparts.

As per information available the battle went on well into the midnight and in pitch dark conditions. In all about 500 soldiers from both sides are said to be involved in the incident which saw 20 Bharatiya soldiers attaining Veergati (martyrdom). Reports also mention that the Bharatiya troops were ambushed by the Chinese troops. China has admitted ‘casualties’ in the clash, but not given any official figure as yet. Our sources claim 43 Chinese casualties (dead and injured), and American intelligence has confirmed 35 Chinese deaths.

PM Modi has sent out a strict warning to China when he said that the country’s sovereignty will not be compromised and that a befitting reply will be given.

Rahul Gandhi would do well to do some introspection and take a good hard look at the history of both his party and that of PM Modi led BJP to know that the latter always keeps his word (Balakot) unlike the former which is known to compromise national security as it did under PM Nehru (1962 Indo-Sino war).
