Former High Court judges join BJP in Kerala

The Kerala BJP received another shot in the arm when former Kerala High Court Judges P N Ravindran and V Chitambaresh joined the BJP a couple of days ago. They were welcomed into the party by Central Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman who had come down to call upon the Keralites to reject the corrupt rule of the communists. This comes shortly after E Sreedharan, the Metroman joined the BJP.

Ravindran and Chitambaresh joined the saffron party at a reception organized at Tripunithara in Ernakulam as part of the Vijay Yatra being led by the Kerala BJP president, K Surendran. A BJP spokesperson informed that Chitambaresh was engaged in Delhi and he could not reach the event personally.

At the Tripunithara event, Nirmala came down heavily on the economic policies of the communist regime especially focussing on the state budget. Instead of allocating to various departments Thomas Issac, the Kerala Finance Minister has been dishing out most funds for a particular entity only.

Around 15 distinguished personalities joined the BJP at the same venue including former DGP Venugopalan Nair, Retired Admiral B R Menon, and former GM of Bharat Petroleum Somachoodan.

Chitambaresh, who retired in 2019, a well-known personality amongst his community had come under fire from anti-Hindu fanatics earlier when he addressed the Tamil Brahmins Global Meet. He had noted that as per Hindu beliefs, Brahmins are considered twice-born due to noble deeds in a previous birth. He said Brahmins should be non-communal, considerate, non-violent and generous, and hence they should strive to be at the helm of affairs thus implying they have a special duty towards society. He encouraged his fellow Brahmins to stick to clean habits, lofty thinking and to remain vegetarian among others.

He added that reservations should be based on economic criteria and not on the basis of community or caste alone. These comments had infuriated the left-liberals and their Islamist counterparts who came down heavily on the former Judge, back then.

In January of this year, both these former judges had joined three other judges in endorsing the Uttar Pradesh Government in their fight against fraud conversions and grooming of Hindu girls (aka ‘Love Jihad’). The Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Bill law was a bold step against forced religious conversions and makes such conversions for the sake of marriage a non-bailable offense. Mass religious conversions are even more severely punishable. Many Hindus and other right-thinking citizens felt that these steps are in the right direction and Madhya Pradesh too has followed suit.

Hypocrisy of left-liberal-secular outrage

The shock and awe among opposition parties and the radicals were expected and manifested immediately after the Tripunithara event. The Muslim League linking retired judges, bureaucrats, and police officers joining the BJP to ‘justice being denied’ is plain bigotry. They comfortably forgot the fact that when radical former judges had expressed their warm feelings towards Congress and its allies, it was not considered ‘unsecular’.

Take the example of Kemal Pasha, a retired judge from the Kerala High Court. A strong opponent of the CAA bill, he wanted the extremists including the SDPI and Jamaat-e-Islami to be included in the anti-CAA protests! Not to be outdone in matters related to appeasement policies, Pinarayi Vijayan himself had chided him. Incidentally, both the Congress and the Communists were opposed to the bill. Now Kemal has indicated to the Congress leadership that he is ready to contest as their Assembly candidate from seats in Ernakulam and its surrounding areas.

For all his proclamations about him being a crusader against corruption (he was the judge who sent a few of the Palarivattom flyover accused to jail) nothing much has come of it. Incidentally, it was the Congress government at that time who was behind the whole scam and Ebrahim Kunju, the PWD minister is yet to be jailed or punished.

His double-dealing when it comes to women is also legendary. On the outside, he acts pro-women but that is not the case when it comes to women in his own family. He is accused by his own sister-in-law of threatening her when she complained about triple talaq given by Pasha’s brother.

We have already seen how former Supreme Court judge Katju and Bombay HC judge Thipsay (now a Congress leader) have embarrassed themselves by giving testimony in UK in favor of absconding scam-accused Nirav Modi.

Following the outburst from so-called secular Muslim leaders over Ravindran and Chitambaresh joining the BJP, many felt that it is judges like Kemal, Thipsay and Katju that should be opposed rather than going after honest judges who post-retirement are now following what they think is in national good.
