Hate speech against Hindus and temples by farmer union’s Tikait

If ever there was proof needed that the farmer protests are nothing but the political and Hindu bashing agenda of various vested groups then one just has to listen to what Rakesh Tikait of the Bharatiya Kisan Union said at the farmer protests.

Tikait uses the farmer protest stage to peddle his anti-Hindu agenda. Spewing venom against Pandits (temple priests), he says none of the temples came forward to as much as provide us tea despite the fact that our women offer the milk from our cattle to the temples first. He then says neither did they organize any Bhandara (food) for us as the Sikhs did. He says Hindu temples ought to learn from the Gurudwaras.

He warns the Brahmins saying “sudhar jao (improve yourselves)” and then says the Brahmins can go on pilgrimages but cannot organize food for us. He further issues threats that everyone will be made to pay. Pray, tell us what is the connection between temples serving food and farmer protests? Why should temples, most of which are anyway controlled by the government that takes away all their revenue earned through donations and temple assets, feed dubious elements who are using farmer protests as a smoke-screen for their vested interests?

Even the temples in private hands have participation of Hindus from all sections of society – the Brahmin pujari is usually an employee of the trust who is hired to perform rites and rituals as per traditions. The question Tikait should be asking himself is – why has this agitation left so many Hindus cold, that they have not poured out into streets the way they did for anti-corruption protests? Could it be because the majority understands these reforms are for the better, and the protesting farmers’ inflexible and maximalist position is unfair? Incidentally, Tikait contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Amroha, UP on an RLD ticket and came in 4th, with 0.87% vote share.

This trope of Hindu temples not offering free food is a sure-shot sign of Hindu hatred, as it ignores the lakhs of people fed daily by Hindu temples in Tirupati, Vaishno Devi, Shirdi etc. Annadanam, the time-tested sacred Hindu tradition of offering food to the needy, is encoded in the Hindu DNA, even though the deracinated urban lot may have temporarily forgotten about it. Bashing Brahmins has become the easy and acceptable way of expressing anti-Hindu bigotry, which also overlooks the fact that several Hindu communities like Warkaris, Lingayats, Arya Samaj, Ravidassis etc. have non-Brahmin priests from within their community.

Honestly, how different is the hate-mongering by Tikait different from what Hindus have to hear from Islamist, Dravidian, Khalistani, communist and left-liberal elements, who rant against ‘exploitative’ pujaris, ‘wastage’ of milk poured on Shivling, or ‘gau-mutra’ jibes? Do these anti-Hindu bigots have anything to say about the state of Christian clergy as shown by the Sister Abhaya murder case, or the Muslim clerics like Maualana Saad who live lavish lifestyles while exhorting their flock to break government guidelines?

Punjab and Haryana farmers do not represent the farmers all around the country. Tikait should actually be introspecting as to why farmers from across the country have not joined the protests if they were actually against the reforms. In fact, most farmer unions have extended their support to the Central Government’s farm laws, and it is only a select group from Punjab and Haryana who have decided to block the national capital to arm-twist the government.

The group of farmers belonging to states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana came together under the banner of the All India Kisan Coordination Committee (AIKCC) and extended their support to the three farm bills in their meeting with Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar.

There is also little doubt that Khalistani elements have infiltrated these farmers’ protests, as also have several other anti-Bharat propagandists. There have been death chants against PM Modi and threats were issued of assassinating the PM as Indira Gandhi had been assassinated.

Then there were posters calling for the release of anti-nationals such as Sharjeel Imam, Varavara Rao, Umar Khalid, and several other Naxalites arrested on charges of terrorism. Furthermore, there are credible intelligence inputs indicating that Ultra-Left leaders and pro-Left wing extremist elements have hijacked the ongoing farmers’ agitation and that these elements are planning to instigate the farmers to indulge in violence, arson, and damage to public property in the coming days.

Where there is the involvement of the Communists then Hindudvesh cannot be far behind. The rant by Tikait is not just devoid of facts but also exposes the agenda of the so-called farmer unions. The Hindu temples whose revenue is siphoned off by the secular state are indirectly funding the subsidies that likes of Tikait think is their birth-right. It is the Hindu temple-going tax payer who generates revenue for the government that is used to procure food-grains at MSP and other pro-poor government schemes.

Before ‘fixing’ the Brahmins and doing their hisaab’ (accounts), Tikait and the other protesting farmer unions should give ‘hisaab’ to the nation.
