Maharahstra MVA allies plumb new secularism lows with each passing day

Secularism in Maharashtra has been plumbing new depths ever since the unholy nexus of Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress formed the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Each of the parties is attempting to outdo the other in proving itself to be minority friendly. While that in itself may not be problematic, it is the method adopted that is the issue.

In their attempt to pander to minorities in general and Muslims in particular, every party of the MVA assumes it must be abusive towards the majority community. By some strange calculation, hurting Hindu religious sentiments seems to be directly proportional to the popularity the party or leader would gain with Muslims.

Besides wanting to know if Ram Mandir would ‘cure Wuhan Virus pandemic’, Sharad Pawar also made it categorically clear that he is not interested in attending the bhumi puja scheduled for 5th August in Ayodhya and wouldn’t go even if invited. Not that the presence of adharmics is needed but it would be better if leaders like Pawar refrain from making sanctimonious anti-Hindu remarks.

The Sri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya represents the reclaiming of Hindu heritage long lost to Islamic invaders and secular governments and regained after a prolonged court battle after numerous karsevaks (worshippers) lost their lives just so that they may see Bhagwan Ram back at His birthplace.

However, for both NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar and his party Hindu sentiment is an alien word and something they can easily trample upon. The party which has cornered all the plump portfolios in the MVA government uses it to appease its minority vote-bank. None of the NCP ministers leave any stone unturned when it comes to pushing forward this agenda.

Time and again Hindupost has reported how Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has used his office to appease Muslims; be it banning the movie “Muhammad Messenger of God” on the request of Azad Maidan riots organizer Raza Academy or issuing notice to the mother of Hindu girl Karishma Bhosale who complained against the use of loudspeaker at a mosque near her residence.

It may be recalled that Hindupost had reported about how the MVA government was set to release 1.8 crores as ‘salaries’ for madrassa teachers at a time when it does not even have money to pay doctors and other healthcare staff.

On the one hand, the MVA government has placed strict restrictions on celebrations of Hindu festivals, and on the other, it has ‘requested’ Muslims to contain Eid celebrations ‘if possible’. In other words, Hindus would have to face the law for violations while Muslims get a free hand to celebrate. Does the pandemic also discriminate on the basis of religion?

Not only have they been given the freedom to celebrate as they wish despite Maharashtra topping the Wuhan Virus affected chart but if images circulating on Social Media are to be believed then they’ll also be afforded protection from law if they get caught transporting animals, even if it is illegal to do so.

Numbers of prominent leaders, including that of Maharashtra Minorities Minister NCP’s Nawab Malik and Congress MLA and Cabinet Minister Aslam Shaikh, have been provided for those who might be facing ‘any issue’ related to animals acquired for Kurbani during Eid-al-Adha.

The image in circulation has purportedly been issued by Dainik Mumbai Halchal and carries the number of its editor Dilshad Khan. Samajwadi Party’s Abu Azim Asmi, Congress MLA Amin Patel and ex-Congress MLA and Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee Vice-President Arif Naseem Khan are the other prominent names whose numbers have been given for those who wish to register any issue in this regard either via phone call or through WhatsApp.

Special permission has been granted by Shiv Sena ruled BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) to sacrifice 150 buffaloes every day from August 1 to 3 at the Deonar abattoir for bakra-Eid festivities.

While the state continues to grapple with numerous issues the MVA government and its leaders are busy pandering to minorities in a bid to keep their vote-bank intact and that too at the cost of the majority community.
