Why no one had the spunk to rein in the Hurriyat earlier?

The tightening of the noose on the Hurriyat by the NIA has shown the intent and resolve of this government to act against secessionists and anti national forces operating inside the country for decades.

Successive governments in Jammu & Kashmir have over the years let the separatists and the secessionists thrive under their very nose even as the latter continued abetting and aiding terrorism within the valley. The governments of the day even provided security to these anti national elements at the cost of the state exchequer.

Emboldened by the lackadaisical approach of the successive governments, the Hurriyat indulged in fomenting and fuelling anti-Bharat sentiment within the valley with the help of material and moral support from Pakistan.
The kids of Kashmir were forced to pelt stones by the Hurriyat, even as their own children went to the best of schools within Bharat and abroad.

By burning down schools in Kashmir they snatched the right of education from the Kashmiri children so that the innocent children could fall prey to their nefarious designs. The APHC (All Party Hurriyat Conference) formed in 1993 with the encouragement of controversial US diplomat Robin Raphel was essentially a conglomeration of political and religious parties with independence from Bharat as their main agenda. All parties belonging to the Hurriyat were militant outfits and one of their leaders Yasin Malik of JKLF even had military training in Pakistan.

Most Pakistani heads of State and premiers made it a habit to meet Hurriyat leaders before and after their State and official visits to Bharat reflecting the nexus between the two. This precedent was started by former President of Pakistan Mr. Leghari and has continued since then with little or no resistance from the Centre until this present government under the Prime minister ship of Narendra Modi took over.

The various governments in Kashmir headed by the Abdullahs, the Ghulam Nabi Azads and the Muftis saw the Hurriyat’s rise in their anti-Bharat tirade but did little to curb their secessionism and separatist activities against Bharat, giving Pakistan the much needed arsenal to act hand in glove with the Hurriyat and other terrorist organisations  to keep the valley on the boil.

Such was the influence of the Hurriyat that the late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, on assuming office thanked the Hurriyat and Pakistan for the peaceful conduct of elections in the valley. It was this weak-kneed approach of various governments which ruled J&K over the past three decades that was responsible for letting Hurriyat indulge in its anti-Bharat activities with the help of Pakistan.

The swanky and lavish lifestyles of the Hurriyat leaders and their ostentatious living is common knowledge but no government until now had the spunk to rein in their leaders in spite of their open war against the State. The current dispensation under Prime Minister Modi deserve all the kudos for showing the muscle which was necessary to muzzle down such a notorious organisation.

With the 7 day remand for 7 arrested Hurriyat leaders the NIA (National Investigation Agency) could move a step closer to arresting the big 3 (Geelani, Malik and Mirwaiz) Pakistani stooges and showing them the power of the Bharatiya State.
