Uddhav govt harrases Bruck pharma owner after Centre grants permission for Remedisivir supply?

That the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA (Maha Vikas Aghadi) government is only interested in political one-upmanship is apparent yet again when it resorted to harassing the owner of Daman-based Bruck Pharma only because BJP leaders had met him to request that the company sell their exportable stock to Maharashtra.

Bruck Pharma owner was arrested by Mumbai police at 9 PM yesterday, following which LoP (Leader of Opposition) Devendra Fadnavis and LoP in the Legislative Council Pravin Darekar visited the police station. Speaking to the media, Fadnavis said:

“Daman-based Bruck Pharma Pvt Ltd is one of the exporters of Remedisivir. Four days ago, BJP leaders had approached the owner and requested that Bruck Pharma supply the stock to Maharashtra as the state was facing a shortage of Remedisivir vials. Since the company said that they would be able to do so only after the Centre and State grant permission, I spoke with Union Minister Mansukh Mandviya and we got FDA’s permission but police arrested him at around 9 PM.

DCP told us that they received inputs that some exporters had 60,000 vials &wanted to verify the same. We showed them the permission letter. He (DCP) said it wasn’t communicated to them. Whatever happened was wrong: Maharashtra LoP Devendra Fadnavis on the arrest of (Remdesvir) supplier.

We have even helped Bruck Pharma to get tied up with Dr Reddy’s Lab so that they could sell their stock in the local market. But the head of Bruck Pharma was threatened by an OSD. We have the call recording of the OSD as well.

Around 9 pm, some 10 police officers went to his home and detained the official of Bruck Pharma. When we showed police the letters of the permissions to Bruck Pharma of permission to sell it in Maharashtra, the police claimed that they had no clue that such a document even existed. Now the director of Bruck Pharma is released by the police.

Fadnavis also said that he was shocked when he came to know that one of the OSDs (Officer on Special Duty) of state FDA Minister Shingne had contacted Bruck Pharma owner and supposedly threatened him for having approached the Centre on the BJP leaders’ suggestions. Fadnavis added that such behaviour cannot be tolerated.

The police on their part have said “there’s a shortage of Remdesvir, & black marketing is rampant. We had got information about this storage facility. Acting in good faith, we only wanted to verify the inputs. He (supplier) was called for an enquiry, it wasn’t an arrest.”

It must be mentioned that LoP MLC Pravin Darekar and MLC Prasad Lad had travelled to Daman to meet officials of Bruck Pharma to make the request for supplying Remedisivir to Maharashtra. Additionally, Fadnavis had even informed Rajendra Shingne, Maharashtra FDA minister, about the same.

During his interaction with reporters, Fadnavis also made it clear that NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik and some ministers aren’t bothered about the troubles of the people. They have nothing to do with those suffering from the pandemic and are more interested in playing politics at this time of crisis.

Earlier, NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik had also peddled lies about Remedisivir supply which was promptly busted by Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Mansukh Mandviya. A report by OpIndia says:

After Union Minister Piyush Goyal slammed Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray for playing politics on oxygen supply, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Mansukh Mandaviya too busted the disinformation peddled by Maha Vikas Agahdi minister Nawab Malik today. Mansukh Mandaviya expressed his shocks over the tweets on Remdesivir supply posted by Nawab Malik, stating that they are full of half-truths and lies.

Slamming the NCP leader, Mandaviya said that Mr Malik is unaware of the ground situation and is peddling lies and half-truths on Twitter. He said the Government of India is in active contact with the Government of Maharashtra and is facilitating them with the supply of Remdesivir in every manner possible.

“We are doubling the production in the country and have given express permission to more than 20 Plants since 12-4-2021 to manufacturers. Ensuring an adequate supply of Remdesivir to the people of Maharashtra remains our priority,” Mandaviya tweeted.

Mandaviya also debunked the lies peddled by Malik, saying that as per the government’s records, there is only one unit of EoU and one in SEZ and not 16 as alleged by the NCP leader in his tweet. He said the government is reaching out to all manufacturers of Remdseivir to secure its supplies and that no consignment is stuck.

Apart from ministers of the Uddhav government peddling lies on social media, Uddhav himself has been playing politics even as Maharashtra has been among the worst-performing states with Covid numbers surging and healthcare facilities crumbling.

Even with regard to the oxygen supply, Uddhav resorted to unnecessary politics. He alleged that PM was out campaigning in Bengal when Uddhav attempted to contact him regarding oxygen supply. This allegation was repeated by Nawab Malik. What Uddhav and his ministers conveniently didn’t mention was Union Health Minister reached out to Uddhav after his call to the PM and assured him that an adequate and uninterrupted supply of necessary resources would be undertaken by the Centre.

While people have been dying and the health facilities in Maharashtra has been neglected by the Uddhav government, Uddhav and his ministers are busy doing politics instead of working for the people of the state. When opportunists form a government only for power then people are bound to suffer under an inept and corrupt government as the citizens of Maharashtra are now doing.
