As PM Modi delivered his sixth Prime Ministerial address this Independence Day, we bring to you the achievements of the Modi Government based on a Tweet Thread by Twitterati Apar Bharat.
We shall take a stroll through five important areas where the Modi government has had a great impact. These are: 1) Defence 2) Infrastructure 3) Welfare Schemes 4) Health and 5)
1) Defence:
With Bharat proudly welcoming its first batch of Rafale fighter planes, the purchase as also the intent of the Modi government in strengthening its defence sector is very much apparent. This is not a Bharat that’ll keep sending ‘dossiers’ to a stubborn Pakistan but one that will enter enemy territory to avenge terrorist attacks from its neighbour as it did in Balakot.
Bharat and Russia are jointly set to produce the AK-203 rifles at the Amethi Ordnance Factory which will be the cornerstone of Bharatiya army in the near future. The Modi government is also going to make the life of the men in uniform easier by providing them with bulletproof cars and jackets.
The “Bharat ke Veer” fundraising initiative of the Home Ministry is a corpus for military personnel. Defence budget allocations have been stepped up and importance is being given to modernization and upgradation of military equipment.
The much-needed OROP (One Rank One Pension) Scheme, a long-standing demand of military personnel, came to fruition under this government.
Apart from external defence, attention is also being paid towards the internal security of the country. The strongholds of the Naxals have been shrinking ever since Shri Narendra Modi has become the PM. According to HM Shah, Naxalism is now confined to just 15% of its previous areas in Bharat.
2) Infrastructure:
The progress of any country hinges on its infrastructure facilities. The Golden Quadrilateral project of ex-PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee gave the much-needed boost by connecting all corners of the country through world-class highways.
PM Modi’s initiatives have been multi-dimensional and are sure to boost the country’s economy and fortune in the long run.
The first high-speed bullet train service between Ahmedabad and Mumbai was kick-started in collaboration with Japan.
Coal is an important ingredient in energy production and during the decade long UPA regime; the country was rocked by the Coal Scam. Not only did PM Modi step up the production of coal by opening new coal mines by the process of coal block auctioning was undertaken with transparency.
The much-needed coal sector reforms will be a boon for the eastern and central Bharat and help in developing this largely tribal belt. Besides, steps are also being taken to ensure that crude oil imports are reduced in the coming years thereby saving precious forex currencies.
To gradually reduce our dependence on energy sources such as coal and crude oil and provide a greener and cleaner energy alternatives, the solar power sector is being spruced up.
Urban and rural electrification, better foreign policies to attract more FDI (Foreign Direct Investments), speedier construction of highways, Katra rail project, Make in India project to boost swadeshi products, MUDRA loans for small and micro enterprises, laying optical fibre cables, PM Gram Sadak Yojana to improve rural connectivity, regulating the real estate industry through the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act 2016, setting up the ro-ro ferry to ply people and goods, rural electrification, Smart City initiative to improve urban infrastructure and make cities both citizen-friendly and sustainable are some of the other major infrastructure initiatives of the Modi government.
Industrialization without skill development is next to impossible and hence schemes such as Start-up India, Stand-up India and Skill India were put in place to ensure that entrepreneurship is encouraged and skills required to complement development are instilled.
What use is production without logistical support? Bearing this in mind the Sagarmala Project has been started in order to use the country’s waterways to their full potential. The sea-plane is another initiative worth lauding.
Additionally, many measures are being implemented to boost the rail infrastructure as well. The dedicated freight corridor, faster electrification of rail lines, and no unmanned rail crossings are just some of the few measures in this sector.
The Udaan Project aims for greater regional connectivity that will make air travel affordable for the masses. It will also improve air travel infrastructure in even the smallest of town besides aiding job growth and national economic development.
3) Schemes for farmers:
Bharat remains largely agricultural and hence it is important that farmers are taken care of, especially at a time when news of farmer suicides keeps trickling in from different states.
The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is an insurance scheme that is sure to bring relief to farmers. The Modi government has also increased the Minimum Support Price for Kharif crops to one and half times the cost.
The government’s Soil Health Card Scheme, launched in February 2015, will provide farmers crop-wise recommendations to farmers of the nutrient content and fertilizers to be used so that the farmers will be able to boost productivity and make optimum use of the available resources.
4) Health:
The Wuhan Virus Pandemic has driven home the point that healthcare is one of the most important sectors that needs attention, not just in Bharat but the world over. Besides increasing the government spending on health services, the Modi government has also launched numerous schemes and undertaken projects that will yield positive results in the years to come.
Schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, Accidental Bima Yojana and Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (life insurance scheme) are some of the key schemes aimed at providing good healthcare facilities at affordable prices to the marginalized sections of the society.
Additionally, the Department of Pharmaceuticals has launched the Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana Kendra to ensure that the masses get medicines at affordable prices. As of today, there are 6550 such Kendras operating all over the country.
HM Amit Shah has also announced that the process of setting up 157 new medical colleges and 22 AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) all over the country is currently underway.
Better maternity leave policies, toll-free national helpline for accident services, making rural Bharat free from open defecation by building toilets under the Swacch Bharat Mission, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana conditional cash transfer scheme for pregnant and lactating mothers and Swacch Bharat Mission to ensure improved solid waste management both rural and urban Bharat and make the country free from open defecation are some of the initiatives in this sector.
5) Other Schemes:
Atal Tinkering Laboratories are being set up in schools with the aim of cultivating children as Neoteric Innovators. To encourage girl child education the government has launched the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme.
The Atal Pension Yojana is a scheme to provide pension to workers in the unorganized sector, a section of the society that has been neglected for a long time.
Steps are being taken to ensure a corruption-free Bharat and eliminate black money. Several prominent politicians accused of corruption like Lalu Prasad Yadav and Om Prakash Chautala, have been sent to prison.
Demonetization was one of the several measures put in place to curb black money. Direct Benefit Transfers have helped in eliminating middlemen and ensuring that government benefits reach the intended beneficiaries.
The Citizenship Amendment Act was brought in to ensure that minorities from the neighboring Islamic countries have a shorter wait before gaining Bharatiya citizenship. This move greatly benefitted persecuted Hindus, Sikhs, and other religious minorities of Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
We are living in the digital age and in keeping with that the Modi government has brought in the Digital India campaign which intends to improve online infrastructure. Digital payments are being encouraged and the Ministry of Electronics and IT has launched the Digilocker Scheme in keeping with the digitization mission.
E-way bill and E-tendering process have been launched so that there is the ease of doing business which in turn will attract more investments.
Bharat is an ancient civilization and the Modi government aims to marry tradition with modernity. Certain schemes have been launched with this aim in mind.
Namami Gange is one of the pet projects of this government that aims to both rejuvenate as well as conserve River Ganga which is revered throughout the country. It is a Rs 20,000 crores budget that was launched in June 2014 itself.
The government also ensured that the Kumbh Mela was enlisted by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
A special mention needs to be made of the efforts made by the Modi government in North-Eastern Bharat which has often been neglected by most central governments in the past.
It was the Modi government which gave the region rail accessibility in addition to making efforts to improve air connectivity in the region. Other efforts include boosting local produce such as bamboo and Eri. The North East Region Textile Promotion Scheme is one of the many schemes aimed at benefitting the North-East sector.
The list is endless and we have tried to cover as much as we could. However, there is no doubt that we have miles to go before we sleep. Effective implementation of these visionary schemes would surely ensure that Bharat marches on while retaining her cultural and civilizational core.
