‘Father’ running children’s NGO arrested for sodomizing teen volunteer

An 18-year old male college student was sexually assaulted and sodomized by ‘Father’ Jon, the owner of an NGO which purportedly helped children rescued from human trafficking. Delhi Police have arrested ‘Father’ Jon and are investigating if he was involved in more such crimes, Times of India reports.

‘Father’ or its Spanish equivalent ‘Padre’ is a term of address for Christian priests & pastors.

The teenager studies in a DU college and met Jon in March when he was in Class XII. He was apparently inspired by Jon’s ‘fight’ against human trafficking and agreed to teach piano to some children Jon claimed to have rescued.

Jon would ask the teen to stay back after classes for meetings. But this was just a ploy to sexually assault him – the teen alleged that Jon assaulted him many times, and threatened to implicate him in a sexual crime if he went to the police.

Jon would text the teen, professing his love for him. But he would sexually assault him often after locking him up in the classroom. He would also be beaten with a belt or stick if he resisted. The ordeal lasted two months.

The survivor said that Jon rebuked and even assaulted him whenever he would talk to his friends. When he stopped going to the NGO, unable to bear with the torture, Jon threatened to frame him in a case of rape or sodomy of a child and send him to jail and destroy his career. Jon had indeed filed a case against the boy at Kamla Market police station.

Neighbours said that Jon had complained to the police against his landlord Vijender as well, and framed him in a case of assault. Vijender claimed that ever since Jon started living in the apartment in East Vinod Nagar, all the cheques he gave him for rent were dishonoured by the bank. “I rebuked him one day, but he threatened to register a case against me and called the police,” Vijender said. He said that Jon had taken up the apartment last year claiming that he would be staying with his brother, but eventually he kept bringing in children he allegedly rescued. Jon said he was from Chhattisgarh.

Trafficking of poor children & women from tribal areas like Chattisgarh & Jharkhand to Delhi NCR and other regions – often with false promises of providing education and a better life – is a booming racket that several unscrupulous missionaries and NGOs have been found to be involved in.

In September, Delhi Police had arrested a Christian woman named Prabha Minj Muni (42) and her husband Rohit Muni on charges of trafficking & sexually abusing minor girls from Jharkhand, in the guise of placing them as domestic helps in Delhi-NCR. Nuns from Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity have also been arrested for illegally selling infants born to unwed mothers.

In a case from Punjab, 38 tribal children, aged between 5 to 18 years, were illegally brought from Jharkhand to the ‘Paskin Mary Cross’ Child Shelter Home in Ludhiana through false promise of education and employment. The children were forced into child labor and illegally converted to Christianity without consent of parents. Just recently, 25 children were rescued from an unregistered Christian children’s shelter ‘Mercy Home’ in Ambala where too children were found to have been illegally converted.

Several cases of sexual abuse and exploitation of children in such shelter home’s have come to light from Southern states like Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh as well.
