Hindus in Bangladesh are one of the most persecuted communities in the world. Earlier we made a report on “Plight of Hindus in Bangladesh: 55 Reported Hate Crimes in January-February ’18” following media reports of Bangladesh.

Here is the report on human rights violations against Hindus of Bangladesh in the March-April’18 period:

March 2018:

1. Muslim drug peddler Rajon Miah & his gang attacked Hindu journalist Hridoy Debnath in Moulvibazar District of North-Eastern Bangladesh, Bengali-language daily newspaper of Bangladesh “Amader Orthoneeti” has reported on 1st March, 2018.

2. Murdered Hindu lady teacher of a nursing college, Anjali Devi’s husband & 2 daughters had to leave Chittagong (nowadays Chattogram) following continuous fatal threat by murderers, Dhaka-based online Bengali newsportal eibela.com has reported on 2nd March, 2018.

3. 8-year-old Hindu girl child has been raped by 42-year-old Muslim rapist Shukur Ali in Nilphamari District of Northern Bangladesh, national Bengali-language daily newspaper of Bangladesh “Amader Shomoy” has reported on 2nd March, 2018.

4. Fanatical Muslim youth attacked & vandalized a Kali Puja mandap as Hindu people had protested harassment of Hindu women by Muslim attackers in Madaripur District, central Bangladesh. 8 Hindu people were injured including women, national Bengali-language newspaper of Bangladesh “The Daily Janakantha” has reported on 3rd March, 2018.

5. Bhagwan Shiva murti was vandalized in a Hindu temple on 1st March at night in Enayetpur sub- District under Sirajganj District of Northern Bangladesh. On 3rd March at early morning vandals came again to destroy every murti of Hindu gods in the temple. Locals caught a vandal named Al-Amin Hossain red-handed but his accomplices ran away. Then the culprit was handed over to police, Bengali-language national newspaper of Bangladesh “The Daily Ittefaq” has reported on 3rd March, 2018.

6. A murti of Bhagwan Shiva has been vandalized & about 116.64 grams of silver and gold ornaments on the murti were stolen from a temple in Pabna District of north-western Bangladesh, national English-language daily newspaper of Bangladesh “Dhaka Tribune” has reported on 3rd March, 2018.

7. Miscreants set fire on a Hindu home during a Kirtan ritual in Bagerhat District of South-western Bangladesh, Dhaka-based online Bengali news portal eibela.com has reported on 5th March, 2018.

8. A 6th grader Hindu girl was gang-raped by 5/6 Muslim rapists in Khulna District of Bangladesh in front of victim’s maternal uncles keeping them hostage when they were returning from Kirtan (Hindu religious chant) ritual, Bengali-language national newspaper of Bangladesh “The Daily Ittefaq” has reported on 5th March, 2018.

9. Murtis of Hindu god Satya Narayan (a deva form of Bhagwan Vishnu) & Shani dev have been vandalized, utensils of the temple worth about 10 thousands taka stolen in Munshiganj District of central Bangladesh, Bengali-language daily national newspaper of Bangladesh “Samakal” has reported on 6th March, 2018.

10. Murtis of Hindu goddesses Lakshmi, Kali & Saraswati were vandalized; corrugated iron sheet fence of the temple looted by Muslim hooligans led by one Saiful Muhuri in Bogra District of Bangladesh as retaliation for Hindus preventing land grabber Saiful Muhuri from grabbing temple land, Bengali –language national daily newspaper of Bangladesh “Kaler Kantho” has reported on 7th March, 2018.

11. 70-year-old Hindu priest named Haradhan Bhattacharya alias Haru Sannyasi was murdered & gold ornaments, cash as well as valuables worth about 10/12 lakh Taka (currency of Bangladesh) were looted by the killers in Pabna District, north-western Bangladesh. Police and locals suspect radical Islamist organisations were behind the attack, national English-language newspaper of Bangladesh “The Daily Star” has reported on 7th March, 2018.

12. Hindus in Bangladesh fast dwindling: Says US-based human rights activist, English-language newspaper of India “Business Standard” has reported on 11th March, 2018.

13. Muslim land grabber Muhammad Sofi Uddin Ahmed threatened a Hindu family in Jatrabari of Dhaka to leave their home otherwise they would be killed, Dhaka-based online Bengali newsportal eibela.com has reported on 12th March, 2018.

14. Muslim terrorists attacked Hindu family, 3 Hindu youths were injured in Sylhet District of north-east Bangladesh, Dhaka-based online Bengali newsportal eibela.com has reported on 13th March, 2018.

15. Muslim terrorists attacked a holy Srimad Bhagavad Gita reading, in which 7 Hindu men were injured in Satkhira District of southwestern Bangladesh, Dhaka-based online Bengali newsportal eibela.com has reported on 16th March, 2018.

16. ‘If you want to live as Hindu, you must pay levy’, a Muslim fanatic ordered a Hindu man & later attacked the Hindu family. Police was not interested to file the case and expressed anger over calls by journalists to act in the matter, Dhaka-based online Bengali newsportal eibela.com has reported on 17th March, 2018.

17. Land sharks have been gobbling up property of Dhakeshwari National Temple in Bangladesh. Land of the temple has been grabbed by Azam, Momin motors limited, Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Navana real estate, Gafur gang, Advocate Kamal, Jinnah & Azim gang, the temple authority has complained, a daily Indian Bengali newspaper “Sangbad Pratidin” published from Kolkata has reported on 17th March, 2018.

18. Ruling party of Bangladesh, Awami League men and their associates attempted to evict a Hindu family to grab their land in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka, national English-language newspaper of Bangladesh “The Daily Star” has reported on 18th March, 2018.

18. Elderly Hindu couple were inhumanly persecuted by Muslim co-villagers greedy for their land in Barguna District of Bangladesh, Dhaka-based online Bengali newsportal eibela.com has reported on 22nd March, 2018.

19. A Hindu man named Lal Chand Bepari was murdered in Bangladesh. Assailants, who knew the victim, barged into his home and started to beat him with an iron rod. They beat him up until he was dead and then took the body away and dumped it. Since his murder, his mother has been desperately trying to seek justice for her slain son but is under heavy pressure to let the murderers off the hook, “Jerusalem Online” newsportal has reported in it’s blog on 22nd March, 2018.

20. A Hindu dispensary trader was nabbed for sharing mainstream media news on Facebook, under the pretext of hurting Islamic sentiments in Barishal (former- Barisal) District of south-central Bangladesh. The 3rd most widely read national Bengali daily newspaper of Bangladesh “Kaler Kantho” had published an illustrated news on 20th February, 2018 about Burqa clad women playing board game at Makkah mosque, which went viral after it was shared on the paper’s verified Facebook page. The news was shared by 20 thousands Facebook users, but only a Hindu dispensary trader was nabbed for sharing the news on the pretext of hurting Islamic sentiments, Dhaka-based online Bengali newsportal eibela.com has reported on 24th March, 2018.

21. Miscreants set a Hindu home on fire at night in Cumilla (former- Comilla) District of south east Bangladesh, Dhaka-based online Bengali newsportal eibela.com has reported on 24th March, 2018.

22. Hindu municipality secretary was beaten by Muslim chairman in Barguna District of Bangladesh, national Bengali-language newspaper of Bangladesh “The Daily Janakantha” has reported on 25th March, 2018.

23. At a mere 7 per cent, Bangladesh Hindus under threat: Says US rights activist Richard L Benkin, English-language daily newspaper of India “The New Indian Express” has reported on 25th March, 2018.

24. Hindu homes were vandalized by Muslim attackers in Habiganj District of north-eastern Bangladesh, Bengali-language daily national newspaper of Bangladesh “Samakal” has reported on 26th March, 2018.

25. House of Hindu human rights activist & Minority Watch president of Bangladesh, Advocate Rabindra Ghosh has been attacked, goods worth Taka 6 lakh as well as Taka 1 lakh cash have been looted by a Muslim mob. His wife Krishna Ghosh has been threatened fatally, national English-language daily newspaper of Bangladesh “Dhaka Tribune” has reported on 26th March, 2018.

26. Muslim leader of ruling party Awami League has grabbed 24 decimal land of Hindu family in Cox’s Bazar District of Bangladesh, Dhaka-based online Bengali newsportal eibela.com has reported on 27th March, 2018.

27. Land of Hindu crematorium has been grabbed by Muslim land grabber in Sunamganj District of north-eastern Bangladesh, Dhaka-based online Bengali newsportal eibela.com has reported on 28th March, 2018.

28. Hindu leader was threatened to leave country & humiliated by municipality chairman and member in Satkhira District of southwestern Bangladesh, national Bengali-language newspaper of Bangladesh “The Daily Janakantha” has reported on 28th March, 2018.

29. Land of a Hindu family has been grabbed, family members have been threatened fatally by Muslim land grabbers in Gaibandha District of northern Bangladesh, Dhaka-based online Bengali newsportal eibela.com has reported on 29th March, 2018.

30. A senior media research analyst at the Center for Near East Policy Research and correspondent at the Israel Resource News Agency, Rachel Avraham wrote an article in “Arutz Sheva/ Israel National News” (in English) entitled ‘Yezidis and Bangladeshi Hindus: A modern day Exodus story’ on 29th March, 2018.

31. A Hindu priest was hacked and injured, when he was worshipping Maa Kali in the temple, by a Muslim man in Lakshmipur District of Bangladesh, national English-language newspaper of Bangladesh “The Daily Observer” has reported in it’s Bengali website on 29th March, 2018.

April 2018:

1. Bangladesh government is trying to acquire land of Hindu temples in Jamalpur, local Hindus have been protesting, national English-language daily newspaper of Bangladesh “Dhaka Tribune” has reported on 1st April 2018.

2. Muslim land grabber is trying to grab land of a Hindu family & their clinic in Pirojpur District of south-western Bangladesh, Dhaka-based online Bengali newsportal eibela.com has reported on 3rd April 2018.

3. Human rights activis Richard Benkin wrote an article in a New York-based newspaper, “The Algemeiner” entitled “As We Say ‘Never Again,’ Bangladesh’s Hindus Are in Imminent Danger” on 4th April 2018.

Muslim leader of ruling party Awami League’s student wing as well as son of ruling party leader tried to rape a Hindu lady teacher in a primary school classroom around 9:30 am local time, national Bengali-language daily newspaper of Bangladesh “Bangladesh Pratidin” has reported on 4th April 2018.

5. A college student was slaughtered and another suffered bullet wounds in Cumilla (former- Comilla) District of Bangladesh by assailants. Both victims were Hindu, national English-language newspaper of Bangladesh “The Daily Star” has reported on 4th April 2018.

6. Widow Hindu housewife as well as mother of 2 children was gang-raped & murdered along with her younger son by Muslim killers in Sylhet District of north-east Bangladesh, popular bilingual online news portal of Bangladesh Banglanews24.com has reported in it’s English edition on 5th April 2018.

9. A Hindu family has been evicted from their home in Chandpur District of Bangladesh, national Bengali-language newspaper of Bangladesh “The Daily Janakantha” has reported on 8th April 2018.

10. Muslim college teacher cum ruling party leader Moinul Islam sexually harassed a Hindu lady sub- district assistant educational officer in Khulna District of Bangladesh. Her husband was beaten by Moinul Islam for protesting the harassment, Bengali-language daily newspaper of Bangladesh “Dainik Janata” has reported on 12th April 2018.

11. Muslim man was nabbed for stealing murti of a Hindu god in Habiganj District of north-eastern Bangladesh, Dhaka-based online Bengali newsportal eibela.comhas reported on 16th April 2018.

14. Muslims attacked Hindus over a trivial issue in Sunamganj District of north-eastern Bangladesh, 3 people were injured, Dhaka-based online Bengali newsportal eibela.com has reported on 20th April 2018.

15. A Hindu housewife committed suicide after continuous pressure of a Muslim loan shark to adopt prostitution to repay her loan in Naogaon District of northern Bangladesh, Bengali-language national newspaper of Bangladesh “The Daily Ittefaq” has reported on 21st April 2018.

16. Secondary school student Hindu girl has been traceless for 2 months, police is clueless, Bengali-language national newspaper of Bangladesh “The Daily Ittefaq” has reported on 21st April 2018.

17. Hindu temple land has been grabbed & a member of the temple committee was threatened fatally in Gopalganj District of Bangladesh, Bengali-language daily national newspaper of Bangladesh “Samakal” has reported on 22nd April 2018.

18. A pool belonging to a Hindu crematorium has been grabbed by Muslim land grabber in Narayanganj District of central Bangladesh, Hindus are being prohibited to cremate, Bengali-language daily national newspaper of Bangladesh “Samakal” has reported on 25nd April 2018.

19. Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) mocked Hindu Dharma in London. BNP leaders & activists gathered on a street of London & started using holy chants ‘Hare Krishna Hare Ram’ in derogatory manner. 21. Hindu leader Balaram Saha has been missing from outside his home in Chandpur District of Bangladesh, Bengali –language national daily newspaper of Bangladesh “Kaler Kantho” has reported on 29th April 2018.

22. Miscreants hacked & seriously injured a Hindu college boy in Naogaon District of northern Bangladesh, Bengali-language daily national newspaper of Bangladesh “Samakal” has reported on 29th April 2018.
