13 Maoist terrorists gunned down in Gadchiroli

In a major blow to Maoists and their powerful Urban Naxal supporters in the nation’s intelligentsia, 13 terrorists were gunned down in a pre-dawn raid today by Maharashtra Police’s C-60 commandos.

As per a report filed by counter-terrorism journalist Vicky Nanjappa,

“The crackdown was undertaken by the C-60 Commandos at a naxal camp near a village. The commandos also recovered arms, weapons and literature relating to the naxal movement. The encounter took place during the daybreak according to DIG, Naxal range, Sandip Patil. The operation was kicked off a day back after learning about the presence of naxals in the forest. We recovered 13 bodies, he also said.

Gadchiroli, Superintendent of Police, Ankit Goyal said that the encounter lasted for about an hour after which the remaining naxalites escaped into the dense forest area. The naxals of the Kasanoor Salam were planning on organising a meeting with the villagers regarding the tendu leaves contract. They had planned on getting out early, but the forces stormed their den and gunned them down.”

This operation by security forces comes on the back of an ambush by Maoist terrorists last month in Chattisgarh’s Bastar division in which 22 security personnel were martyred and 31 injured. Gadchiroli in Eastern Maharashtra forms part of the tribal (vanvasi) belt alongside parts of Chattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha where the Maoist insurgency is strongest.

Maoists are Communists who base their ideology on the genocidal Chinese dictator Mao Zedong. Their goal is to violently overthrow the state in Bharat through “people’s war” to establish a totalitarian Communist dictatorship. They are also misleadingly referred to as Naxalites, as the terror movement first originated in 1967 in Naxalbari, West Bengal.

Like any totalitarian political ideology, Communism is also splintered along many axes of doctrinal differences between leaders (messiahs). So we have the Communist Part of India (CPI), CPI-M (Marxist), CPI-ML (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, CPI (Maoist) which is banned, Marxist Communist Party of India (United) and several other smaller parties inspired by the noxious Communist doctrine.

Although the ‘mainstream’ Communist parties like CPI, CPM officially profess the path of electoral democracy to achieve their socio-political goals, their end goal is not that different from the Maoists.

Kerala’s first CM and leading Marxist ideologue EMS Namboodiripad articulated this ‘moderate’ position best when he said – “The communists’ project in participating in India’s parliamentary institutions was to wreck the constitution from within“! In fact, Article 2 of CPM’s Party Constitution says “Its aim is socialism  and communism through the  establishment of the state of dictatorship of the proletariat.”

To the add to the subterfuge of the organized Left, we have a powerful, loosely connected network of Urban Naxals – intellectuals, academics, economists, bureaucrats, lawyers, student activists, artists and the like who spread romantic illusions about the Maoist ideology and carry out a strident propaganda against the purported and real inadequacies of the existing state structure. Urban Naxals are over-ground sympathizers of the Maoist terrorists, who have formed urban front organizations and made deep inroads into premier University campuses like JNU, Jadvapur etc. In 2010, leftist students in JNU held a night-long ‘celebration’ of the slaughter of 76 CRPF personnel by Naxals in an ambush at Dantewada, Chattisgarh.

Most of the ‘mainstream’ English language media doyens – the Shekhar Guptas, Barkha Dutts etc –  have been sympathizers and tacit supporters of the Urban Naxal cause. Our Constitutional institutions like judiciary and bureaucracy are also not immune to such propaganda due to colonial underpinnings.

A brazen Maoist ideologue like Gautam Navlakha, who has been captured on video calling for violence against the Bharatiya state on multiple occasions, was allowed to give courts and law enforcement the run around for months before he finally ‘surrendered’. Our High Courts treat Maoists with kid gloves while granting them bail and other relief not provided to ordinary citizens. Members of the Urban Naxal intelligentsia who deride the martyrdom of security personnel are also treated with exceptional compassion by our courts. Such craven appeasement of a deadly externally-aided foe is justified using the cloak of ‘freedom of expression, ‘right to dissent’, ‘democratic tolerance’ or some such.

Unless all organs of our State develop the resolve to weed out noxious foreign ideologies like Communism and start dealing with terror enablers and apologists with an iron hand, the cat and mouse game between security forces and Communist Maoist terrorists is bound to continue.
