Annual ‘Idol Desecration’ Festival Season In Full Swing in Muslim-majority Bangladesh

Bangladesh was liberated with Bharat’s help – it was the Army of ‘Hindu’ Bharat that allowed Bengali Muslims to escape the genocide that Pakistan’s brutal dictator Gen. Yahya Khan had unleashed on them through ‘Operation Searchlight’ in 1971. Bharat provided refuge to millions of Bangladeshi refugees, both Muslim and Hindu, who poured into our country in 1971.

Yet today, Bangladesh is at the forefront of persecuting Hindus like other Muslim-majority nations – Hindus in Bangladesh have reduced from 22% in 1951 to less than 9% of the total population today.

Land grabbing, sexual attacks, murders and abductions, blatant discrimination at hands of the socio-political system : this is what Bangladeshi Hindus face day in and out. One other prominent feature of life for a Hindu in Bangladesh is open mocking of their religion and the use of the slur ‘Malaun’ (derived from an Arabic word meaning ‘accursed’ or ‘deprived of God’s Mercy’) against them.

And of course, the routine desecration of Hindu murtis (idols). This ritual of idol desecration is actually practised through the year, but it peaks around the time of the Durga Puja festivities. Let us look at some recent incidents –

6 Sept 2017: 15 idols desecrated in Manikganj

1 July 2017: 5 idols vandalised in Gazipur

29 June 2017: 6 idols vandalised in Tangail

23 June 2017: Two idols of Sree Krishna and Josaimata broken in Rajshahi

19 June, 2017: Two idols of Hindu god Shiva and goddess Kali were vandalised at Kalibari temple in Gopalganj

But all this is hearsay, if one were to believe the English language press of Bharat. Their hatred/apathy for Hindus goes so deep, that when VHP organizes a protest against the persecution of Bangaldeshi minorities in front of the Bangladeshi High Commission office in Kolkata, Indian Express gives the following headline –

VHP to protest over ‘attacks’ on Hindus, Buddhists outside Bangladesh Deputy High Commission

Yes, the attacks on Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh are just a figment of the radical Hindutvawadi minds and thus need to be reported with scare quotes to to convey skepticism. ‘Journalism of courage’, indeed.

  1. We should import more Rohingyas so that such incidents can become commonplace in Bharat also. The problem is Islam—be it Rohingya or Bengali or UP or Kashmiri or whatever. Islam teaches, in no uncertain terms, for Muslims to be aggressive and hateful towards Kafirs. No amount of political correctness is going to change that basic fact that shapes Muslim attitudes towards Hindus.
