Another Hindu Temple Desecrated, Murtis Vandalized in Bangladesh

In yet another attack on Hindus in Bangladesh, two murtis at a temple in Atrai upazila of Naogaon were vandalised on Friday night.

Unidentified people vandalised the murtis of Kali and Shiva at Barokalikapur Kali Mondir, Niranjon Kumar, president of the temple told Bangladeshi newspaper Daily Star.

Police have detained six people for interrogation in this connection, said Mobarak Hossain, officer-in-charge of Atrai Police Station.

Desecration of Hindu temples and breaking murtis (idols) is a favorite activity of Islamists in Muslim-majority Bangladesh, as worship of idols is considered haram (taboo) in Islam, and fundamentalists exhorts all Muslims to proselytize by any means possible.

Here are some recent incidents of murti vandalism in Bangladesh –

6 Sept 2017: 15 murtis desecrated in Manikganj

1 July 2017: 5 murtis vandalised in Gazipur

29 June 2017: 6 murtis vandalised in Tangail

23 June 2017: Two murtis of Sree Krishna and Josaimata broken in Rajshahi

19 June, 2017: Two murtis of Hindu god Shiva and goddess Kali were vandalised at Kalibari temple in Gopalganj

When Hindus of Bangladesh are faced with systemic persecution through land grabs, sexual attacks on women, and beheadings of priests at hands of ISIS-inspired local jihadis, temple desecration comes pretty low down on the issues facing Hindus there – it is accepted as a routine part of life.

So when our chattering classes discuss whether Bharat is on the way to become a Hindu Pakistan, let us remember that the subcontinent has already spawned another Muslim Pakistan – i.e. Bangladesh, the country which ironically Hindu Bharat helped create to free Bengali Muslims from the genocidal yoke of the Punjabi Muslim dominated Pakistan Army. It appears that all difference and divisions between fundamentalist Muslims are forgotten when it comes to their common hatred for the kafir.
