Controversial US body USCIRF threatens sanctions against Home Minister Amit Shah for CAB passage

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), a federal entity created in 1998 by then US President Bill Clinton, has threatened that US Government should issue sanctions against Home Minister Amit Shah after the passage of Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in Lok Sabha. The bill was tabled and passed by the Rajya Sabha too yesterday.

CAB provides Bharatiya citizenship to persecuted religious minorities (namely Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis and Christians) from the neighbouring Islamic nations of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who have arrived here till 31 Dec 2014, and have been residing as refugees. This would help them to lead a life of dignity and give them access to basic human needs such as shelter, education, medical facilities, government jobs etc. As the home of Dharmic faiths it is the duty of Bharat to stand up for and provide shelter to all those religious minorities from the neighbouring Islamic countries who are victims of religious persecution.

USCIRF and its pro-missionary, anti-Hindu bias

The USCIRF describes itself as follows:-

“The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) is an independent, bipartisan federal government entity established by the U.S. Congress to monitor, analyse and report on threats to religious freedom abroad. USCIRF makes foreign policy recommendations to the President, the Secretary of State and Congress intended to deter religious persecution and promote freedom of religion and belief.”

A close look at the keywords highlighted in the quote above tells us that the semi-government body aims at ‘reporting threats to religious freedom abroad’. An unbiased  examination of their past actions, however, proves clearly that the body makes a distinction between persecuted members of Abrahamic Faiths on the one hand and Dharmic Faiths in general & Hindus in particular on the other hand.

More often than not people who find themselves among the minorities and are at the receiving end of targeted atrocities by the majoritarian population of their country of residence, prefer moving to countries where their co-religionists are in majority and therefore they can safely practice their religion with fear of being harassed for following their faith.

There are ample evidences throughout history which bear testimony to the fact that United States of America (USA) has welcomed Christian migrants with open arms. In addition, it has discriminated against non-Christians seeking refuge in USA. Among the non-Christians it is almost always the highly skilled who find themselves being accepted by USA. The USCIRF has conveniently turned a blind eye to all this.

As stated earlier, Bharat, being the natural home of Hindus and Dharmic faiths, is morally obligated to stand by Hindus & followers of Dharmic faiths the world over and provide a safe home as well as a life of dignity to all of them who are being persecuted only because they refuse to convert and believe in tenets of a monotheistic faith. Moreover, as a developing nation with limited resources, Bharat cannot allow for free influx of immigrants – bodies like USCIRF should first look inwards and introspect on how a prosperous USA is treating illegal immigrants from Mexico and South America: even babies are being separated from their parents!

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) responds to USCIRF

In a stern message that hints at a paradigm shift in Bharat’s foreign policy after the advent of PM Modi led BJP government at the centre, MEA has said that USCIRF has made ‘inaccurate and unwarranted comments on a matter on which they have little knowledge and no locus standi’. MEA Spokesperson Shri Raveesh Kumar has further stated that the body is guided by its ‘prejudices and biases’ and the statement issued by is motivated and unjustified.

This is a new Bharat that will not shy away from standing up for its Hindu identity & responsibility towards Dharmics across the world.
