Parliamentary Standing Committee proposes mandatory singing of National Anthem in Bangladesh Madrasas

Bangladeshi Parliamentary Standing Committee on Government Institutions has recommended making national flag hoisting and national anthem compulsory in all Madrasas in Bangladesh. The committee also called for the modernization of the syllabus and curriculum and examination system of Madrasa education in the light of national education policy. The recommendation was made at a committee meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, Bangladesh on Thursday.

Committee member Asam Firoz presided over the meeting while other members Mostafijur Rahman, Narayan Chandra, Muhammad Mahobubul Alam Hanif, Muhibur Rahman Manik, and Nahid Izahar Khan were present. The committee said that before establishing any Madrasa, it was necessary to get the approval of the Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board.

It is recommended that measures should be taken to prevent counterfeiting and steps should be taken to increase the awareness of Madrasa teachers and students to prevent violent sectarianism. The Management Committee of the Madrasa, Executive Committee, Governing Body, Ad-hoc Committee have been asked to take necessary steps to resolve the committee-related issues.

It is said that the policy of accepting the recommendations of the local MPs in the nomination of the President of the Governing Body should be strictly followed. The tendency to form Ad-hoc committees was instructed to be stopped.

Madrasas in Bangladesh are not singing their national anthem. This is a clear parallel between cases reported from some  Bharatiya Madrasas. It also highlights how fundamentalist Islam is a transnational ideology masquerading as a religion and how these Madrasas are breeding ground for anti-national and Pro-Caliphate forces.
