Seniors force juniors to eat human faeces in Christian seminary – Indonesia

Two Grade 12 students have been expelled from a Christian seminary in Indonesia for trying to force 77 other students to eat human faeces as a form of punishment, reports UCA News.

The incident took place on Feb. 19 when two senior students at Our Lady of All Nations Minor Seminary in Maumere in Catholic-majority East Nusa Tenggara province found human faeces in a plastic bag inside a dormitory cupboard, the Jakarta Post reported one of the students subjected to the abuse as saying.

The two seniors then gathered the juniors in the dormitory and demanded to know where the faeces came from. When no one owned up, the two seniors tried to get the others to taste the faeces using spoons.

Two days later, the shocked parents of one of the students reported the abuse to administrators at the seminary, which held a meeting with parents, the seventh-grade students and the two seniors on Feb. 25. In a statement received by UCA News after the meeting, seminary head Father Deodatus Du’u offered his deepest apologies. “This has taught us to try to do better in the future,” he said.

He said any abusive acts taking place will not be tolerated. “The school has decided to expel the two senior students,” he said, adding that the seminary will also provide victims of the incident with trauma counseling. Maria Florida, the mother of one of the seventh-grade students, said the incident had left her feeling angry. “We send our sons to the seminary with the hope that the priests who teach there can stand in for us as parents because we live pretty far away from the school,” she told UCA News.

Bishop Ewaldus Martinus Sedu of Maumere refused to comment on the incident when contacted by UCA News.
