Teenage Hindu Girl Abducted, Forcibly Converted in Thar, Pakistan

A teenage Hindu girl who was recently abducted from a village in Thar (Sindh, Pakistan) has been forced to convert to Islam and reportedly made to enter a marriage, her family and relatives claimed.

The family of the 14-year-old girl told reporters at Islamkot press club that the girl was abducted a few days ago after three armed men barged into their home and held the family hostage.

Hero Meghwar, the said girl’s father, revealed that he contacted local people of influence but was told that the girl had converted and married a certain Naseer Lunjo, hence there is little that could be done.

The family members alleged that local police, too, was not interested in recovering the girl. They demanded that the girl should be recovered and produced before a court if she has indeed converted.

But SSP Thar Ameer Saud Magsi maintained that a first information report (FIR) has been registered under Sections 365 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, while raids are being conducted to arrest the three suspects nominated in the FIR.

The SSP revealed that according to a letter he received from elders of the person accused of converting the girl, the girl had converted to Islam at the hand of a pir (spiritual leader) in Umerkot district.

Magsi said not only has the police received a certificate of conversion, a copy of which is available with Dawn, issued by the pir, but also the now-married couple has filed an application in the Sindh High Court, seeking protection. He said the court has fixed the application for hearing on January 17 next year.

The conversion certificate, however, leaves open the mystery of how a 14-year-old from a distant Thar village made it as far as Samaro.

Taking notice of the matter, Sindh Inspector General of Police A.D. Khawaja has directed deputy inspector general Mirpurkhas to immediately submit a report regarding steps taken by the police and details of the inquiry into the case.

Editor’s Notez

Abduction, rape, forced conversion and marriage of Hindu girls, many of them minors and from poor families (Bheel, Meghwar, Kohli etc), is a common occurrence in Sindh province of Pakistan – the only region of Pakistan where Hindus have a significant presence.

This phenomenon first came to international limelight with the abduction and conversion of Rinkle Kumari in 2012, and it is estimated by Pakistan’s National Commission of Justice and Peace and the Pakistan Hindu Council (PHC) that around 1000 Hindu & Christian minority women are forcibly converted to Islam each year and then forcibly married off to their abductors or rapists. This practice is being reported increasingly in the Districts of Tharparkar, Umerkot and Mirpur Khas in Sindh. Reputed Pakistani journalists like Najam Sethi believe that over 90% of such girls are either killed or forced into prostitution after a few months of ‘marriage’.

This organized persecution of hapless Hindus living in Sindh, Pakistan is carried out by Sufi orders (which liberals claim show us the ‘true, liberal’ face of Islam) like Bharchundi Sharif and Sarhandi Pir. The chief of this forced conversion and sexual exploitation racket is Pir Abdul Haq aka Mian Mitho. Mian Mitho, also shares strong links with Pakistani Army, PTI’s chief Imran Khan, and was an MNA (Member of National Assembly) from ruling party of Sindh, PPP, which allows him a free reign of terror as it earns them votes of a highly radicalized community. In 2015, Imran Khan (who is worshipped by the secular-liberal crowd in Bharat) had even invited Mian Mitho to join his party.

A proposed bill against forced conversion was tabled in November 2016 in the Sindh Assembly, but was stalled due to strong objections by certain religious hardliners and has not been ratified.

Hindus are estimated to be around 2 percent of the Pakistan’s population, but the Hindu population is dwindling at an alarming rate given the climate of fear and persecution that they encounter on a day to day basis. Listen to what  Meera Bai, a Pakistani Hindu immigrant in New Delhi has to say

“We escaped religious and cultural persecution when we came to India,” she added. “We are happy here. At least here we know that no one will steal our cattle or our young daughters.

And this is the Pakistan that Pakophiles like Mani Shankar Aiyer, Naseeruddin Shah, Rajdeep Sardesai, Shah Rukh Khan and others advocate are ‘just like us’ and with whom we should hold talks to hash out our differences.

But how does one talk to evil, with a nation where Islamist poison has seeped so deep that anything and everything against Hindus is condoned if it is believed to further the spread of Islam?
