WaPo (Washington Post) journalist Dave Weigel recently displayed his anti-Bharat racial bigotry when he insinuated that Bharatiyas indulge in ‘scam calls’. There has been no response from the Editorial team regarding the issue raised by Twitterati Hindu Americans highlighting the bigotry by one of their journalists.

The Tweet by the WaPo journalist reads “Got two scam calls today and my first thought was this is good, Covid-19 cases in India must be low enough for people to go back to the office”. Journalist Dave Weigel perhaps forgot that not only does the American economy depend heavily on Bharatiya Americans but that it depends on Bharatiyas for much of its backend office support needs as well.
It is hardly surprising that with this kind of mindset, the western media loves to look at Bharat with tinted glasses. The bias runs so deep that the western media has now graduated to Pandemic porn after over-romanticizing poverty porn. However, Weigel has taken his bias a notch higher and is now projecting Bharatiyas as “scamsters”. It is the exact kind of mindset that fuels stereotypes such as that of Bharatiyas being ‘snake charmers’.
The editorial team of Washington Post has neither replied to the Twitter user nor as much as acknowledged the issue brought to light by them. Any responsible media house would take allegations of racial bias seriously and initiate action at the earliest.
