Attacks on Hindus and Hindu Dharma, both in Bharat and overseas, are frequent and unrelenting. In many regions of the world, this persecution is like a genocide slowly unfolding before our eyes. For decades, the true depth and breadth of these attacks, driven by disturbing anti-Hindu bigotry, have been ignored by the world. From murders, sexual violence, forced conversions, land grab, assault on festivals, desecration of temples and murtis, hate speech, to institutionalized & legal discrimination, Hindus are facing an increasing assault on their very existence along with an unprecedented Hindu hatred.
In this weekly summary for the period from 6 December to 12 2020, we hope to provide a snapshot of such crimes and hopefully awaken more people around the world to this human rights crisis:
Bharat
1) Two grooming cases from UP came to light which made it clear why the anti-grooming law passed by the UP government led by Yogi Adityanath is the need of the hour and how ground reality is far removed from what the Lutyens Liberal cabal often projects. The UP police have registered FIR against 8 persons and arrested the brother and brother-in-law of the accused in a case of grooming a minor in the Tambor police jurisdiction of UP’s Sitapur. Reports indicate that the minor girl was abducted and was being pressurized to convert to Islam. This comes close on the heels of another grooming case in which a person named Mohammed Sonu was arrested for trapping a Hindu girl in the name of love by identifying himself as a Hindu guy Sonu. He was arrested by the UP police when the two had reached the court to get married. The lawyers informed the family members of the girl who reached the court.
2) Distorting Hindu itihas (history) comes naturally to Bollywood which is dominated by Islamists. In a similar attempt, Saif Ali Khan who is set to play Raavan in Om Raut’s upcoming film Adipurushstatement issued a saying that the film would humanize Raavan and justify his abduction of Maa Sita.
3) Vijaypal Singh, vice-principal of a private school in Shahjahanpur, UP was sacked from his job and is receiving threatening phone calls over a social media comment he made in response to a viral video that emerged from the recent Punjab farmer protests.
4) Showing extreme disrespect for Hindu Dharma an HRCE official was caught on video desecrating a Hindu temple in Tiruvallikeni. A shocking video of an HRCE official leaving footwear inside the temple she works in has surfaced on social media and caused widespread outrage. Thiruvetteswaran temple in Tiruvallikeni was desecrated by the officer using her footwear within the temple and garbage left strewn around due to the apathy and uncaring attitude of the Hindu Religious Charitable and Endowments (HRCE) board. A devotee has filmed how the temple is maintained and posted the video on social media.
5) A Muslim stalker named Moin Khan brutally murdered the grandmother and 10-year-old brother of a Hindu girl in Nagpur. Moin Khan who had been stalking a Hindu girl murdered her grandmother and 10-year-old brother by slitting their throats as the grandmother had taken objection to Khan stalking her granddaughter. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon in the Hazaripahad area of Nagpur. The victims have been identified as Laxmibai Dhurve and Yash Dhurve.
6) Movies and OTT content continue to promote anti-Hindu plots with Kiara Advani starrer Indoo ki jawani joining the long list of anti-Hindu movies.
7) In a case of grooming that took place in Lucknow, a woman from Madiyagaon has filed a complaint against one Saiji Abbas, a resident of Vazirganj, and his family for alleged molestation after holding hostage, assault, torture, exploitation and abortion. The woman has alleged that after her husband died, Saiji Abbas befriended her pretending to be Arjun. He later said that he was Manoj.
8) A Dalit RTI activist, Pankaj Lamba, who played a vital role in unearthing the multi-crore SC/ST scholarship distribution scam in Uttarakhand in 2013, was accidentally shot dead by his own pistol, allegedly by a minor girl. However, the family has alleged that his associates—Kasim and other unknown people—were behind killing the activist.
9) Four persons, including a minor, allegedly gang-raped a 16-year-old girl from Bilaspur district in Chhattisgarh. A case was registered against the accused identified as Sheikh Ramzan, Sandip Rajak, and Shishu Rajak. While three of the 20-years-old accused were arrested, the minor accused was detained by the police.
10) The Delhi police have arrested an 18-year-old Shoyab Khan on serious charges of impersonation, kidnapping and forced marriage of an underage girl. The case is an addition to the already worsening situation of grooming wherein sections of radical Muslims specifically target non-Muslim women.
Pakistan
1) Hindu homes were attacked in the Muslim neighborhood of Joglar village, Tharparker Sindh-Pakistan attacked Hindu homes. 8 Hindu men, women, and children were severely injured and admitted in Government Hospital Islamkot, Sindh-Pakistan.
2) Another 16-year-old Hindu girl Namrata, daughter of Bhagwandas was abducted from Karachi-Pakistan for sexual exploitation and conversion to Islam.
Bangladesh
1) Several organizations came together to protest against the attempts to seize Hindu Debottar property. Reports state various organizations including the Narayanganj’s Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Parishad, Awami League in Narayanganj have staged a symbolic hunger strike and mass sit-in program against the Narayanganj City Corporation mayor and her family in protest of attempts and threats to seize Hindu Debottar property.
Other parts of the world
Marking the 70th anniversary of Human Rights Day, HAF has brought to light the atrocities Hindus are subjected to across several nations in the Bharatiya sub-continent and Southe-East Asia. To mark the 70th anniversary of Human Rights Day, commemorating the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Hindu American Foundation released four new sections of its annual human rights report, highlighting the persecution of Hindus in the countries of Afghanistan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Bhutan.
Most hate crimes are driven by anti-Hindu bigotry encoded in certain religious teachings and political ideologies. While the anti-Hindu hate in Islamic countries is obvious, there is another subtler form of anti-Hindu sentiment within institutions and public sphere of ostensibly secular states (like India) that provides an enabling environment for Hinduphobia and hate crimes. This subtle, everyday discrimination can be missed unless one studies prevailing laws and patterns. The gradual ban on firecrackers during Diwali is a good example – it might seem pollution-related on the surface, but the double standards at play become clear when one looks at the larger picture of restrictions on Hindu festivals, and the lack of sound reasoning behind the ban.
