Hinduphobic Christian teacher of Maharashtra catholic school suspended after insulting Hindu Deities

On Saturday, August 8th, Sunita Joseph, a Hinduphobic Christian teacher at Mount Carmel Secondary And Higher Secondary School, was suspended from her services for insulting the Hindu faith and deities through the official WhatsApp group of standard VI (A).

An image shared by her with the students of sixth standard via WhatsApp group showed a street dog urinating at a place where a Murti of Bhagwan Ganesha was placed. Behind it was a saffron flag, and the Murti was being guarded by the sculpture of Nandi. The picture also featured a crow sitting on the Saffron flag revered by the Hindus.

The screengrab of the picture was accompanied by the message:

“Even a dog knows that this is nothing but a stone. Don’t know why Bharatiyas have not understood it as yet.”

The post was shared by the teacher on the Whatsapp group of class 6 students and soon went viral on social media.  It was evident that the derogatory remark was made to inspire young children to hate and mock Hindu Dharma and disrespect Hindu deities. There is no doubt that the screengrab was shared by Sunita Joseph in an attempt to influence young students aged 12 or 13 to hate and mock Hindu Dharma.

Such bigoted attitudes towards murti-pooja (pejoratively called ‘idol-worship’) are prevalent in all fanatic Christians and other adherents of Abrahamic religions. Bible has several verses which forbid ‘idol-worship’, a few of those are reproduced below –

Leviticus 26:1 – Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the LORD your God.

John 5:21 – Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.

Exodus 20:3-6 – You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Isaiah 45:16 – They will be put to shame and even humiliated, all of them; The manufacturers of idols will go away together in humiliation.

1 Corinthians 6:9 – Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals

Revelation 21:8 – But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

The authorities of Mount Carmel Secondary and Higher Secondary School located in Akola, Maharashtra recognized the potential damage to their institution if they did not act and decided to suspend Joseph immediately. The suspension letter, received and acknowledged by Sunita Joseph, reads that even if the content was sent by error, it remains unpardonable.

But suspension alone is not sufficient for such a deed – it will be a travesty if the ‘teacher’ is re-inducted after a few months. Such a ‘teacher’ should be dismissed from service, never allowed to teach anywhere else and should be prosecuted under criminal law for spreading hate and hurting Hindu religious sentiments.
