Cab Driver, Gulam Rabbani, Using Fake Identity Arrested for Murdering His Girlfriend, Nandini

Cab driver Mohammed Ghulam Rabbani (22) was arrested by Delhi police for murdering his girlfriend Nandini (22) when she threatened to expose his criminal activities, Times of India and other media outlets have reported.

Rabbani took Nandini from Connaught Place to Gurugram, where he slit her throat with a paper cutter and then dumped her body in the bushes near Hero Honda Chowk on April 17. Rabbani had befriended Nandini by introducing himself as Neeraj Jha. He also used the aliases Lakshay and Shahrukh.

As per a press release by DCP (central) Mandeep Randhawa, the case got solved while Delhi police was investigating another case of an unidentified female body found on May 14 near Raj Ghat, from the back side of Ghata Masjid, Opp. Shanti Van, Darya Ganj, Delhi.

After carrying out investigation in the nearby area, police suspected the deceased might be Nandini, a vagabond residing on the footpath/open place near LNJP Hospital, who was missing since last one month from the area of Delhi Gate, Nandini was often seen with her friend Lakshay who was a auto/taxi driver and residing somewhere in Pooja Colony, Karawal Nagar area.

A police team was immediately dispatched there and his house was located but he was found absconding since last about 7/8 days. It was also revealed that his real name was Gulam Rabbani. He was working as a driver in OLA Cab under pseudonym Neeraj Jha for last one month, but on verification through OLA, it was revealed that no booking was being done on his ID for last few days. This increased the police’s suspicion that Gulam Rabbani may be behind this murder and he was evading the police. Police are now probing how he was able to bypass the security checks conducted by the cab company.

With the help of technical surveillance and secret information, Rabbani was apprehended from the area of Minto Road, Delhi on 25.05.18 while he was going from Ramlila Ground to Connaught Place. During interrogation, Rabbani first tried to mislead the cops with different versions. Police found photographs of Nandini from his mobile phone and matched them with the details uploaded by Gurgaon police on ZIPNET, the portal for unidentified bodies and missing people.

After sustained interrogation, Rabbani broke down and narrated to cops how he had met Nandini three years ago in Connaught Place. He introduced himself as Neeraj and befriended her. The twist came when Rabbani stole an auto from UP and confided in Nandini about it. The relationship hit a rough patch as Nandini threatened to tell police about his criminal activities. Rabbani then allegedly hatched a plot to get rid of her.

On April 17, Rabbani abducted Nandini from CP and took her to an isolated spot in Gurgaon. He beheaded her with a paper cutter, dumped her body in the bushes and fled. He threw the cutter in Loni.

Rabbani has three criminal cases against him. In February, he was driving a stolen auto rickshaw in Khajuri Khas when he got involved in a minor accident. Rabbani attacked the driver of another vehicle with a blade and fled after leaving him severely wounded.
