Korban Ali and his son Mintu Sheikh abducted Vinod Das’s minor daughter on 9th June, 2017. Vinod Das is a safai karamchari with Kolkata’s municipality. Being a widower, his daughter, a 10th standard student, used to stay at her maternal aunt’s house when she suddenly disappeared on 9 June last year. After searching far and wide, the father learnt that the girl had been abducted by Mintu Sheikh and his father Korban Ali, both residents of Metiabruz area in Garden Reach, and that she was being held in a house in Meher Manzil area of the same the same locality (Garden Reach).
Das along with other locals reached Garden Reach police station to lodge a complaint. They provided the exact address where the girl was being held. But police refused to act citing the ‘sensitivity’ of Garden Reach area. Incidentally, Garden Reach is colloquially known as ‘mini-Pakistan’ of Kolkata, a term even used by TMC MLA & minister Bobby Firhad Hakim while talking to a Pakistani reporter.
