VHP condemns Munger police brutality on Hindus, demands quick action against responsible officials

In a statement released yesterday, Shri Alok Kumar, VHP Working President, said that the unprovoked, unnecessary and barbaric lathi charge on peaceful and unarmed devotees going for the immersion of Devi Durga murtis is condemnable in the strongest terms.

It is unfortunate that one devotee has died and six others seriously injured by the brutal lathi charge. It could be a conspiracy of the local administration and police to affect the ongoing Bihar elections.

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad condemns the lathi charge.

The VHP demands:

(i) The guilty police and administrative officers be immediately suspended and enquiry instituted against them;

(ii) The personnel found guilty in the enquiry be prosecuted including under Section 302 IPC in a fast track Court and punished;

(iii) Adequate compensation be given to the persons affected by the unlawful attack by the police and

(iv) Effective steps be taken to prevent the recurrence of such events.

HinduPost Note

Devotees were also fired upon by the police as per eyewitnesses, with one youth Anurag Poddar killed in the firing and many others injured. Police have denied this and claimed that shots were fired by ‘anti-social’ elements within the crowd.
